How Access Control Systems Work?
Access Control Systems enable an individual or group to control access to certain areas within a facility or computer information system. In physical security there are several components related to this type of system that I will be covering in this article.
Access control points can be a door, turnstile, elevator, parking gate, or any other barrier where access can be granted or denied. Most access points are doors and these points can be controlled by electric locks. Rather than requiring a human operator to control the locks, an electronic reader is used to determine the level of accessability that is to be granted to incoming traffic.
Types of Readers
There are many different kinds of readers that are used to control entry points. Readers can use biometrics to scan finger or hand prints, they can be keypads that require a key code, and they can also be used to read keycards. Advances in network technology over the past decade have led to the increased use of IP readers. These readers are often PoE enabled which allow them to be easily integrated with battery backups. This means that in the event of a power failure, the control system will still operate properly. Control readers do not usually make the decision, but instead pass the information along to a control panel that verifies the proper access level.
Cost and Benefit
Access control systems are extremely affordable these days and can easily be installed into any size facility. In addition to affordability, the benefits of having a control system far out-weight the cost incurred.
Top 3 benefits of using Access Control Systems:
- Authorization – granting only authorized users entry to doors or systems
- Accountability – logs and records that can account for an individual’s actions
- Identification – verifying an individual’s identify and level of accessability
All About Video Conferencing
Following in the lead of major corporations and organizations which have utilized ground-breaking technologies to bring the idea of a video conference to life, thousands of small businesses are now searching for cost-effective ways to do the same thing. For the large corporation, video conference technology allows enormous savings on travel costs, and it also makes employees more efficient. The possibilities for corporate communication uses are nearly endless, all the way from training sessions to boardroom strategy meetings, bringing employees and management teams together in a way that was previously simply impossible.
For the small business, video conference technology can be no less powerful. Some may even argue that the cost savings are more important to a small business, where a difference of thousands may mean staying in business or going out of business during a tough economic time such as the last couple years. Video conferences for small businesses can allow meetings with suppliers and clients, sometimes at long distances, without ever leaving the office and wasting valuable productivity time on travel (not to mention costs). The best thing about video conferencing for the small business is that it can be done for free. The process is relatively simple, but there are a few main steps to follow.
Next, set up an appointment time with your contact. You then use the service's software to actually place the call and have the video conference. It's wise to make a practice run, perhaps with a friend or family member who also uses the service, so that you can learn where to place your webcam, how loudly to speak, and other important details. A video conference should be no less professional than a real meeting or conference would be!
Video Conferencing in the Classroom: Why Every School Needs Conferencing Solutions
Today, technology has really taken off. There are all sorts of technologies out there. There are iPods that can hold a few thousand songs in it. It is simply amazing what people have created these past few years. Another great technology is video conferencing. Video conferencing is a great way to communicate on a more personal level when communicating face to face is not possible. There are many different ways to conduct a video conference, and there are some facts you should know before deciding whether or not to invest in this technology.
The cost of a video conferencing started out quite high. It was a new technology, and when a new technology comes out, it ends up costing a lot of money right away. As time passed, the cost for technology goes down. This is also true of video conferencing. The technology is now much more affordable for everyone. If the cost is still affecting the way you think about the programming then just think about all of the things that it can do for your company. The benefits of this program could even pay for itself over time so the cost should not be that big of an issue.
Other companies that use video conferencing include companies that have two different sites. A company may start small and have only one site. When that company grows and expands there will be multiple sites. Having a video conference is a way to talk to people from each site at one time. This saves time and money since no travel time or costs are needed. Because of all these reasons the cost of the video conference programs generally pay for themselves overtime, and that is why you should consider investing in one.
